Since virtual production integrated to Al Mashhad’s workflow, the channel is pushing the boundaries of creative storytelling. From a parliament to waterfalls in the studio, there is no limit on what Al Mashhad can present to the audience. Here’s how Zero Density helped Al Mashhad adopt virtual production and reach its audience with high-quality graphics delivered with maximum efficiency.

Going beyond traditional broadcasting

Al Mashhad, a TV channel founded in January 2023, adopted a new model that blends digital platforms with classic TV, differing itself from traditional broadcasters. The channel made “pushing the boundaries of traditional news presentation” its mission and decided to utilize virtual production techniques to deliver dynamic visuals that enhance storytelling. The aim was clear—Al Mashhad wanted a space that could adapt to diverse narratives without sacrificing visual sophistication and modern style.

“Our goal was to elevate the storytelling by creating virtual studios, environments that combine clarity, creativity and cutting-edge technology.”

Flexible, agile and more – without a drawback

Al Mashhad found the key to bringing its vision to life with virtual production and Zero Density’s real-time virtual production platform, Reality, allowing the channel to react swiftly to breaking news thanks to a flexible environment adaptable in real-time. This agility ensures that Al Mashhad stays ahead in delivering news to its audience without delays.

“Virtual production has streamlined our workflows, providing real-time tools that enhance coordination across our global team, it allows journalists, editors, and producers to visualize stories collaboratively, even under tight deadlines.”

A reliable and forward-thinking partner made a significant difference in maximizing the benefits of virtual production for Al Mashhad.

We’ve been looking in the market and there were a lot of solutions providing virtual production, virtual studios. We evaluated all the options and after we have seen many of the providers, we found out that Zero Density is the best.

More time for creativity

Al Mashhad operates with two studios: one is a physical studio enhanced with Augmented Reality (AR) and Extended Reality (XR) technologies, and the other is a virtual studio. Since the channel’s launch, the team has exceeded traditional broadcasters by creating more than 10 studios that have gone on-air in the same studio, and with each event, they create a brand-new set. The channel can expand its virtual production airtime from 2 hours daily to 4-5 hours, depending on the season. The best part is that they save time and resources without losing their grip on maintaining brand consistency and the look and feel of their programs.

It has allowed us to focus more on creativity and innovation, ensuring that every piece of content meets the highest standards of quality. Photorealism is a cornerstone of Al Mashhad’s visual identity. It creates an immediate sense of authenticity and credibility, which is especially critical in news and political programming.

Al Mashhad’s exemplary work doesn’t go unnoticed. While the advanced visuals draw new audiences, the channel has also strengthened its connection with existing viewers, receiving more positive feedback on social media.

One key benefit of virtual production is its ability to reduce the need for physical sets, construction materials, and waste, aligning with Al Mashhad’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.

It’s more than just a coverage, an experience

With the power of virtual production and Zero Density’s platforms, alongside their partner Dreamwall, Al Mashhad set a new standard during the U.S. Election coverage in 2024. The live broadcast, which lasted around 36 hours, wasn’t just coverage; it was a complete experience built from scratch in only three weeks, making this globally significant election unforgettable for viewers.

The U.S. Election project was a huge project. Our aim was to create an emotionally connected look and feel that gave the viewers and our audience a new experience. Simplified complex data and the modern design combined with immersive visuals ensured that viewers not only understood the information but connected with it.

Integrated platforms behind the scenes

Al Mashhad has 11 Reality Engines in their studios, producing up to 30 shows per week with hyper-photorealistic real-time graphics complemented by dynamic visuals, data-driven graphics, and seamless workflow integration. The studios inside Al Mashhad’s headquarters also feature 7 tracked cameras, all connected to Reality.

Stop searching for different solutions because I tried different solutions. […] I recommend mostly to have one solution which is Zero Density with the whole package. You have the tracking, you have the renderer, you have the keyer. You just need a camera, and a green or a blue environment.

Marc El Asmar, Graphics Manager, Al Mashhad
